Dad has a wonderful companion, Samantha.  She just turned 20 on Sunday, and she came over to sit with Dad for me even though it was her birthday.

They watched the DVD of "Cats" on Broadway and talked at length about He and my Mom and all the Broadway shows they saw together over the years.

When she was leaving, she said to my Dad, "I'm going now, Lyman.  I'm going out to dinner because it's my Birthday.

"Well tell her I said, "Happy Birthday!" He replied, not hearing that it was her own Birthday.

Instead of correcting him, she simply replied, "I will."

Now that's dementia training at its best!

avatar It sounds like your father took well to Samantha; and she seems like a very nice person to be around.
It is difficult working with the effects of Dementia, but having a good support group for our loved ones is a beneficial advancement in their lives.
