My Mother Print

I wish we would have had this website 10 years ago. My mom passed away in 2004. We kept her at home as long as we could. We had a caregiver who was on disability at the time but she was also an RN. My brother and his wife and my sister and myself stayed with her when the caregiver had to go to the doctor or to church, so we took turns. My sister Sandy was real good with her she gave her baths and worked with her.

There is a story that I am sure at the time my brother almost lost it.

She went in the back bedroom for a long time and came out totally undressed. My brother did not know what to do so  he called my sister to come dress her. It was funny because it was Denny and not one of us, but she did not realize it. We still talk about it that night it was quite funny at the time.

Mom was home for about a year, but she started to get up in the middle of the night, so we put chimes on the doors so Holly the caregiver who awaken to make sure she did not go outside. We had checked out 4-5 nursing homes and finally found one real close to all of us that was really homey and a wonderful staff. We told her she was going to a condo and never told her anything different. It was that nice. All carpeted with antiques and a good feeling. They even had dogs there poodles that they all loved to pet. We always made sure to get there at least once a week. We also had a sign in book in her room that way we knew who came to see her.

I miss my mom everyday and love her more as the years go on.

God Bless you Kathy for doing such good things for this growing group of parents, and friends of all.

God Bless everyone that is taking on this challenge on a daily basis.
