Dad has a pacemaker/defibrillator combo that is implanted in his chest. If his heart goes too fast, the device slows it down. If it goes too slow, it shocks him like on TV when the doctor yells, "Clear!" and puts the paddles on a person's chest to revive them. With technology being what it is today, he has […]

My sweet home health aide, Dodie came over last night so I could go out to dinner with a dear friend. When she arrived, he asked her if she was babysitting him. "No I'm dating you." She replied with a smile. Talk about saving his dignity. She did that and made him a beefcake.

Dad is a pack-rat. He has been as long as I can remember. When he moved in with me and we cleaned out his condo, we found mail, newspapers and magazines from the 1970s! I've recently noticed that he is "stashing" newspapers in his closet, dresser drawers and under his bed. I wonder if he just […]

Dad and I awakened today and were greeted by day eleven of his nasty cold. Of course Dad thinks he is "coming down with something" every day when he wakes up. When he got up this morning, he was coughing and blowing his nose. He said that he thought he was catching a cold, since his […]

Dad takes Ensure or Boost, (whichever is on sale) daily in order to give him some extra nutrition, as well as to add more vitamins to his diet. As any of you know that use these drinks, they are really expensive. They run about $9.00 for a six-pack, and that adds up to about fifty dollars per […]

Dad had to go to the proctologist for an exam today. To prepare, it was necessary for him to receive two fleet enemas before the appointment. As many of you know, I try to draw the line somewhere as a caregiver, and that line is preferably above the waist! So I called in the Bayada […]

Dad had a small heat stroke this weekend (don't you wish you lived in NC where the weather is so warm in February) and had to make a quick trip to the emergency room. When the ambulance came, there was a cute female EMS worker that was in the back, and I rode up front. […]
